American Airlines
American Airlines was formed in 1930 through the consolidation of numerous small regional carriers known as American Airways, and it grew over the following decades into one of the largest airlines in the world, historically headquartered in New York before later relocating to Texas. American merged with US Airways in 2013 while emerging from Chapter 11 bankruptcy, a deal that created, at the time, the largest airline in the world by passenger traffic, combining two major legacy carrier networks under one brand. American Airlines has maintained one of the largest domestic hub networks of any U.S. carrier, with major hubs including Dallas-Fort Worth, Charlotte, and Chicago O'Hare, giving it an especially extensive route network across the American South and Midwest. American Airlines's combination of its 1930 origins consolidating early regional carriers and its landmark 2013 merger with US Airways has made it one of the most historically significant airlines in the United States.
VS
Emirates
Emirates was founded in 1985 in Dubai with initial backing from the government of Dubai, launching with just two leased aircraft, and it grew over the following decades into one of the largest and most prominent international airlines in the world. The airline built its business model around Dubai's strategic geographic position roughly equidistant from much of Europe, Asia, and Africa, using its Dubai International Airport hub to connect passengers traveling between distant global regions that previously required multiple connecting flights. Emirates became particularly known for its heavy investment in premium long-haul service, operating one of the largest fleets of Airbus A380 superjumbo aircraft in the world and building a reputation for luxury amenities, including onboard showers and private suites in its first-class cabins. Emirates's combination of its strategic Dubai hub connecting global regions and its heavy investment in luxury long-haul amenities has made it one of the most prominent and influential international airlines in modern aviation.
