Anderson Silva
Anderson Silva won the UFC middleweight championship in 2006 and defended it a promotion-record 10 consecutive times, a title streak that lasted nearly seven years, from 2006 to 2013 — still the longest unbeaten championship run, by both fight count and duration, in UFC history. Nicknamed "The Spider," Silva was known for an unusually fluid, almost improvisational striking style built around head movement and counter-striking, sometimes taunting opponents mid-fight with his hands down, a level of confidence in his own defense that few fighters before or since have attempted against elite competition. His title reign ended in 2013 with back-to-back knockout and injury losses to Chris Weidman, including a gruesome leg break in the rematch — a stretch that closed out his championship run but didn't erase the historic length of the streak that preceded it. Silva's résumé during his prime included dominant wins over a series of highly ranked contenders across multiple weight classes, and his combination of technical striking innovation and sustained championship longevity is still the standard other middleweight champions get measured against, more than a decade after his title reign ended.
VS
Amanda Nunes
Amanda Nunes became the first fighter, male or female, to simultaneously hold two UFC championships in different weight classes when she added the featherweight title to her existing bantamweight belt in 2018, a two-division reign she'd go on to defend across both weight classes for years afterward. Nicknamed "The Lioness," Nunes's résumé includes wins over two of the sport's other most dominant former champions: a first-round knockout of Ronda Rousey in 2016 that ended Rousey's UFC career, and a decision win over Cris Cyborg in 2018 that unified the featherweight title — two of the most anticipated superfights in UFC women's division history, both settled decisively in Nunes's favor. Nunes retired in 2023 as the UFC's most decorated women's champion, holding UFC records for most wins in women's bantamweight championship fights and among the longest combined title reigns across two divisions of any fighter, male or female, in the promotion's history. Her combination of knockout power and grappling credentials made her one of the few fighters in either the men's or women's divisions genuinely feared everywhere a fight could go — standing or on the ground — a versatility that underpinned her case as the greatest women's MMA fighter of all time.
