Arkansas State University
Arkansas State University, founded in 1909, is the state's second-largest public university, and its agricultural programs serve the significant farming economy of the Arkansas Delta region surrounding the university's Jonesboro campus. The university's aviation program and its growing engineering offerings have expanded ASU's academic breadth beyond its traditional agricultural focus, and the university's international campus partnerships, including a branch campus in Queretaro, Mexico, reflect a broader institutional strategy of global expansion. ASU's Red Wolves athletic programs have built a strong regional following, and the university's continued role serving northeastern Arkansas's Delta region gives it a distinctive regional identity relative to the state's larger Fayetteville-based flagship. The university's combination of its Delta agricultural research strength and its expanding international campus presence has made Arkansas State a distinctive complement to the University of Arkansas within the state's public university system.
VS
John Brown University
John Brown University, founded in 1919, is an evangelical Christian university whose engineering and construction management programs have built strong reputations relative to the university's modest overall size, reflecting a deliberate institutional emphasis on rigorous professional and technical education within an explicitly Christian mission. The university's requirement that all students complete biblical studies coursework regardless of major, combined with its mandatory chapel attendance, reflects JBU's continued commitment to integrating Christian faith formation throughout the undergraduate experience. JBU's Siloam Springs campus, in the same rapidly growing northwest Arkansas region as the University of Arkansas and Walmart's corporate headquarters, gives business and engineering students access to that area's expanding retail, logistics, and manufacturing economy. The university's combination of its genuine engineering and construction management program strength and its explicit evangelical Christian mission has made John Brown University a distinctive choice among Arkansas's private colleges.
