Dong Dong
Dong Dong won Olympic gold in men's trampoline at both the 2012 London and 2016 Rio Games, becoming China's most decorated trampoline gymnast and one of only a small number of trampoline athletes in history to defend an individual Olympic title. His technical execution, particularly the height and precision of his routines' most difficult combined twisting elements, established him as the standard other competitors were measured against throughout his sustained decade-long run at the top of the sport. Dong's continued elite competitiveness across three Olympic cycles, including a bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Games held in 2021, reflected a level of career longevity uncommon in a sport demanding such explosive power and split-second aerial precision. His combination of back-to-back Olympic gold medals and his sustained three-Games competitive excellence has made Dong one of the most statistically dominant men's trampoline gymnasts in the sport's Olympic history.
VS
Rosie MacLennan
Rosie MacLennan won Olympic gold in trampoline at both the 2012 London and 2016 Rio Games, becoming the only Canadian athlete in any sport to win individual gold medals at consecutive Summer Olympics and establishing herself as trampoline's dominant women's competitor of the 2010s. Her back-to-back Olympic titles came against an increasingly deep and competitive international field, as trampoline gymnastics' global talent pool grew significantly stronger between the 2012 and 2016 Games, making her title defense a genuinely harder achievement than her first gold alone suggested. MacLennan's role as Canada's flag bearer at the 2016 Rio closing ceremony reflected the broader national significance her achievements carried, elevating trampoline gymnastics' public profile in Canada well beyond the sport's typically limited mainstream visibility between Olympic cycles. Her combination of back-to-back individual Olympic gold medals and her broader role elevating the sport's Canadian profile has made MacLennan widely regarded as the greatest women's trampoline gymnast in Olympic history.
