El Nuevo Siglo Restaurant
El Nuevo Siglo Restaurant, tucked inside a working grocery store in the heart of Little Havana, has served Cuban sandwiches and full Cuban lunch plates to a mix of neighborhood regulars and visitors exploring Calle Ocho for decades, its market-attached format giving it a genuinely local, unpolished character. Its position inside an active grocery store, rather than as a standalone restaurant, means the sandwich counter shares space with shelves of Cuban pantry staples and produce, giving the whole experience a lived-in, functional feel distinct from more restaurant-formatted competitors nearby on Calle Ocho. The restaurant's location on Little Havana's main commercial corridor puts it directly amid the neighborhood's other well-known Cuban food landmarks, giving visitors an easy opportunity to compare its sandwich directly against several of the strip's other established spots within a short walk. For a Miami Cuban sandwiches list, El Nuevo Siglo is the essential "grocery store counter" entry — a Little Havana market-and-lunch-counter combination serving a genuinely unpretentious Cuban sandwich right in the middle of Calle Ocho's most concentrated stretch of Cuban food culture.
VS
Sanguich de Miami
Sanguich de Miami opened in 2019 in Allapattah, founded by chef Rob Guarino specifically to make a single, extremely well-executed version of the Cuban sandwich rather than a broader Cuban-American menu, treating the sandwich itself as worthy of the kind of focused attention usually reserved for a restaurant's whole concept. The shop presses its sandwiches on a plancha using genuinely traditional technique — Cuban bread, ham, roasted pork, Swiss cheese, mustard, and pickles — while sourcing many ingredients, including its bread, from small local vendors rather than mass producers, a deliberate quality-first approach in a category often dominated by high-volume, inconsistent versions. Its rapid rise to national food media attention, including recognition from major food publications within just a couple of years of opening, reflected genuine culinary craft applied to a sandwich most Miamians grew up eating without necessarily thinking about who was making the best version. For a Miami Cuban sandwiches list, Sanguich de Miami is the essential "the sandwich as the whole point" entry — a single-focus shop built entirely around getting one classic Miami sandwich as close to perfect as possible.
