Fremont Street Experience
Fremont Street Experience opened in 1995, built by covering five blocks of downtown Las Vegas's original casino corridor with a massive barrel-vaulted steel canopy, converting what had been an open street into a pedestrian mall specifically to help downtown Las Vegas compete with the newer, larger resorts that had begun drawing tourists away toward the Strip. The canopy itself doubles as an enormous LED video screen, one of the largest in the world at the time of its various upgrades, running synchronized light and music shows nightly above the heads of pedestrians walking the historic street below. Fremont Street sits in the heart of what's now branded as the Fremont East and downtown gaming district, home to some of the oldest continuously operating casinos in Las Vegas history, giving the area a genuinely different, more vintage character than the newer mega-resorts further south on the Strip. For a Las Vegas attractions list, Fremont Street Experience is the essential "old Vegas under a light show" entry — a 1995 pedestrian canopy built to keep downtown's original casino corridor relevant, now topped by one of the largest video screens in the world.
VS
The Sphere
The Sphere opened in September 2023, built by the Madison Square Garden Company at a reported construction cost exceeding $2 billion, and its nearly 366-foot spherical exterior is covered in what's billed as the largest and highest-resolution LED display on Earth, capable of transforming the entire building's outward appearance nightly. Inside, the venue's interior screen wraps around and above the audience at a scale and resolution built specifically to support both concert residencies and purpose-built immersive film experiences, backed by a haptic seating and audio system engineered to physically feel like more than just watching a large screen. U2's residency, the venue's first ongoing live show after opening, was built specifically to showcase the Sphere's audiovisual capabilities, and the venue's construction and ongoing operating costs have made it one of the most expensive single entertainment venues ever built anywhere in the world. For a Las Vegas attractions list, the Sphere is the essential "the building that's also the show" entry — a 2023, over $2 billion venue whose entire exterior functions as a giant screen, built specifically to make the structure itself as much a spectacle as whatever's playing inside.
