West Point Beach, Discovery Park
West Point Beach sits within Discovery Park, Seattle's largest park at more than 500 acres, requiring a genuine hike down from the park's bluffs to reach the shoreline, a level of effort that keeps this beach considerably less crowded than Seattle's more easily accessed waterfront parks. Its remote, undeveloped feel, backed by the park's forested bluffs rather than city streets or houses, gives West Point a genuinely wilder character than any other beach on this list, closer to a natural coastal hike than a typical urban beach outing. The historic West Point Lighthouse, built in 1881 and the oldest lighthouse still standing in the Seattle area, anchors the beach and adds a specific historic landmark to what is otherwise one of the city's most secluded and naturally preserved shoreline stretches. For a Seattle beaches list, West Point Beach is the essential "earn it with a hike" entry — a remote, bluff-backed Discovery Park shoreline anchored by the city's oldest lighthouse, offering the wildest and least developed beach experience in Seattle.
VS
Golden Gardens Park
Golden Gardens Park, at the northern edge of Ballard, is widely regarded as one of the best places in Seattle to watch the sunset over Puget Sound, with unobstructed views across the water toward the Olympic Mountains that draw crowds specifically for that evening light. Its designated fire pit areas, available on a first-come basis, have made it one of the most popular beach bonfire spots in the city, a specific draw that distinguishes it from beaches without formal fire infrastructure and makes it a common destination for evening gatherings well past typical beach hours. The park's small marina and its position along the Burlington Northern rail line, with trains occasionally passing directly along the park's inland edge, give Golden Gardens a genuinely industrial-meets-recreational character distinct from Seattle's more purely scenic beach parks. For a Seattle beaches list, Golden Gardens is the essential "sunset and bonfires" entry — a Ballard-area beach known specifically for its Olympic Mountain sunset views and designated fire pits, making it the city's most popular evening beach destination.
