Jahangir Khan
Jahangir Khan won 555 consecutive matches between 1981 and 1986, a winning streak across any professional sport that remains one of the longest unbeaten runs ever recorded, and it stood entirely unmatched in squash for decades after his active playing career ended. He won the World Open championship six times and the British Open, historically the sport's most prestigious title, a record 10 consecutive times between 1982 and 1991, establishing a level of sustained dominance across squash's two biggest tournaments that no player before or since has approached. Jahangir began his career against considerable odds, having survived a childhood hernia operation that doctors initially suggested might prevent him from playing competitive sport at all, and his family's deep squash pedigree — several relatives had also competed at an elite international level — shaped his rigorous early training. His combination of physical fitness, tactical patience, and an almost robotic on-court consistency made Jahangir the dominant figure in world squash throughout the 1980s, and his 555-match unbeaten streak remains the individual statistic most frequently cited when discussing the greatest sustained dominance in the sport's history.
VS
Amr Shabana
Amr Shabana won the World Open championship four times between 2003 and 2009, establishing himself as the leading figure of Egypt's emergence as the dominant national power in men's squash during the 2000s, a shift that moved the sport's center of competitive gravity away from Pakistan's earlier decades of dominance. His elegant, technically refined playing style, built around precise racquet control and shot placement rather than pure physical power, made Shabana one of the most aesthetically admired players of his generation, frequently cited by squash commentators for the visual quality of his game. Shabana's success helped establish Egypt's now-extensive squash development infrastructure, which has since produced a continuous pipeline of subsequent world-class Egyptian players, making his individual championship success foundational to the broader Egyptian squash program's sustained international dominance in the years since. His combined four World Open titles and his role in launching Egypt's continued dominance of men's squash, a dominance the country has sustained through multiple subsequent champions, make Shabana one of the most significant transitional figures in the sport's modern competitive history.
