Johnnie Walker
Johnnie Walker traces its origins to 1820, when grocer John Walker began selling whisky blends from his shop in Kilmarnock, Scotland, and the brand grew over subsequent generations under his son Alexander and grandson George into one of the most globally distributed Scotch whisky brands in history. The brand's distinctive color-coded labeling system, including Red Label, Black Label, and the premium Blue Label, lets consumers quickly identify different aging and quality tiers within the same overall brand, a marketing approach that became widely imitated across the broader spirits industry. Johnnie Walker's "Striding Man" logo, introduced in 1908, became one of the most recognized trademarks in the global spirits industry, and the brand has maintained continuous international distribution and marketing across more countries than most other whisky brands throughout the 20th and 21st centuries. Johnnie Walker's combination of its two-century family origin story and its widely imitated color-coded label tier system has made it one of the most globally significant Scotch whisky brands in the world.

Maker's Mark
Maker's Mark was founded in 1953 by Bill Samuels Sr., who reportedly burned his family's generations-old bourbon recipe and started over from scratch, developing a distinctive wheated bourbon mash bill using winter wheat instead of the rye typically used by most other bourbon producers, aiming for a softer, less spicy flavor profile. The brand's signature red wax-dipped bottle seal, hand-dipped at the distillery since the brand's founding, became one of the most recognizable packaging designs in the entire spirits industry and was successfully trademarked as a distinctive brand element, an unusual legal protection for a bottle's physical appearance. Maker's Mark's founder is credited with popularizing the term "handmade" bourbon marketing more broadly across the industry, emphasizing small-batch production values at a time when many competing bourbon brands emphasized scale and consistency over craft positioning. Maker's Mark's combination of its distinctive wheated bourbon recipe and its trademarked hand-dipped red wax seal has made it one of the most visually and stylistically distinctive bourbon brands in the industry.
