The Kentucky Fried Movie
"The Kentucky Fried Movie" (1977) strings together dozens of short comedic sketches parodying television commercials, news broadcasts, and film genres, written by the Zucker-Abrahams-Zucker team who would go on to direct "Airplane!" three years later. Its rapid-fire, loosely connected sketch format, more akin to televised sketch comedy than a traditional narrative anthology, established a comedic anthology style that directly influenced the ZAZ team's subsequent spoof films and the broader genre-parody comedy tradition that followed. The film's segment "A Fistful of Yen," a lengthy parody of "Enter the Dragon," became its most fondly remembered and frequently referenced individual sketch among the film's cult following. Its combination of its influence on the ZAZ team's subsequent spoof comedy career and its foundational role in sketch-style comedic anthology filmmaking has made "The Kentucky Fried Movie" one of the genre's most influential cult entries.

Coffee and Cigarettes
"Coffee and Cigarettes" (2003) compiles eleven black-and-white vignettes filmed by Jim Jarmusch over nearly two decades, each depicting two or more characters conversing over coffee and cigarettes, featuring performers including Cate Blanchett, Bill Murray, and members of the Wu-Tang Clan. The film's minimalist, deadpan conversational style, consistent across every segment despite the years separating their production, reflected Jarmusch's singular directorial voice more than most anthology films, which typically showcase multiple distinct filmmakers rather than one director's sustained approach. Its structure as a single-director anthology, assembled from short films made independently across different points in Jarmusch's career, distinguished it from the more common multi-director anthology format used by most other films of its kind. Its combination of Jarmusch's sustained singular directorial voice and its notable ensemble of guest performers has made "Coffee and Cigarettes" one of the most distinctive single-director anthology films ever made.
