The Kentucky Fried Movie
"The Kentucky Fried Movie" (1977) strings together dozens of short comedic sketches parodying television commercials, news broadcasts, and film genres, written by the Zucker-Abrahams-Zucker team who would go on to direct "Airplane!" three years later. Its rapid-fire, loosely connected sketch format, more akin to televised sketch comedy than a traditional narrative anthology, established a comedic anthology style that directly influenced the ZAZ team's subsequent spoof films and the broader genre-parody comedy tradition that followed. The film's segment "A Fistful of Yen," a lengthy parody of "Enter the Dragon," became its most fondly remembered and frequently referenced individual sketch among the film's cult following. Its combination of its influence on the ZAZ team's subsequent spoof comedy career and its foundational role in sketch-style comedic anthology filmmaking has made "The Kentucky Fried Movie" one of the genre's most influential cult entries.

Paris, je t'aime
"Paris, je t'aime" (2006) assembles eighteen short films, each roughly five minutes long and set in a different arrondissement of Paris, directed by an international roster including the Coen brothers, Alfonso Cuarón, Alexander Payne, and Gus Van Sant. The film's structural conceit, using the city of Paris itself as the connective thread rather than a shared character or plot device, allowed for a wider stylistic range than most anthology films, spanning comedy, romance, horror, and drama across its eighteen segments. Its format inspired a subsequent wave of city-anthology films, including "New York, I Love You" and similar projects set in other global cities, establishing the format as a recognizable subgenre within anthology filmmaking. Its combination of an unusually large international directorial roster and its influential city-anthology format has made "Paris, je t'aime" one of the most structurally ambitious anthology films ever produced.
