Lamar Gant
Lamar Gant became the first powerlifter in history to deadlift more than five times his own body weight, a pound-for-pound achievement that remains one of the most statistically extraordinary individual lifts in the sport's history relative to a competitor's own size. Standing just 4-foot-11 and competing in lighter weight classes, Gant's relative strength-to-bodyweight ratio in the deadlift specifically has never been matched by any other competitor in the sport's recorded history, making him the definitive pound-for-pound deadlift specialist of any era. Gant's technical deadlift form, adapted specifically to his shorter limb proportions, became a widely studied case study within powerlifting coaching circles for how body leverages and proportions can be optimized for maximum deadlift performance. His unmatched pound-for-pound deadlift record has made Gant one of the most frequently cited examples within powerlifting of genuinely extraordinary relative strength, and his specific achievement remains unbroken decades after he first set it.
VS
Kirill Sarychev
Kirill Sarychev holds the current world record for the heaviest raw squat ever performed in competition, reflecting the continued advancement of powerlifting's absolute strength standards in the modern era of the sport's competitive record-keeping. His combination of exceptional size and technical squatting form let Sarychev push the sport's absolute strength records well beyond what previous generations of powerlifters had achieved, reflecting broader advances in training methodology, nutrition science, and competitive equipment across the modern era. Sarychev's continued competitive career representing Russia at major international powerlifting championships established him as one of the dominant heavyweight competitors of his generation, particularly within raw powerlifting divisions that restrict the supportive equipment some other divisions allow. His record-setting raw squat has made Sarychev one of the most statistically significant figures in modern powerlifting's continued pursuit of absolute strength records, representing the current benchmark against which subsequent heavyweight squatters are measured.
