Liz Ellis
Liz Ellis played a then-record 122 tests for Australia between 1993 and 2007, a total that made her the country's most-capped netballer at the position of goal keeper, and she won three World Championship titles with the Diamonds, in 1995, 1999, and 2007. She also won two Commonwealth Games gold medals, in 1998 and 2002, and domestically was the most-capped Commonwealth Bank Trophy player in history with 173 matches, adding four National Premierships with the Sydney Swifts in 2001, 2004, 2006, and 2007. Ellis's standing in the sport was formally recognized in 2008 when Netball Australia created the Liz Ellis Diamond, the sport's premier individual honor, awarded annually to the player judged to have combined outstanding international and domestic-league performance that year. Her combination of a then-record 122 Australian caps and three World Championship titles across a 14-year international career has made Ellis one of the most decorated defenders in netball history — significant enough that the sport's top individual award now carries her name.
VS
Jhaniele Fowler
Jhaniele Fowler led all scorers at the 2023 Netball World Cup and captained Jamaica's Sunshine Girls to a bronze medal by beating former champion New Zealand in the third-place playoff, her fourth World Cup appearance for Jamaica. In Australia's Suncorp Super Netball competition, Fowler has scored more than 5,000 goals across her club career and won eight league MVP awards, a level of individual club dominance that Netball Jamaica's own president has pointed to in publicly calling her the sport's greatest of all time. Her scoring output has repeatedly made her the single largest source of Jamaica's offense in major tournaments, a team that has traditionally had to compete against far deeper Australian and New Zealand programs, and she was named to the World Cup team of the tournament following her 2023 performance. Fowler's combination of leading the 2023 World Cup in scoring and her eight Super Netball MVP awards has made her one of the most statistically dominant individual shooters in the sport's modern history, regardless of her home program's overall depth.
