Michelle Key
Michelle Key, born in Phoenix in 1988, reached a career-high world ranking of seventh in 2014-15 and spent much of her career as one of the top American women chasing Paola Longoria's international dominance, reaching National Championship finals in singles (2016) and doubles (2013) without quite breaking through for the title in either. She won a Pan American Championship in mixed doubles partnered with Sam Bredenbeck, and added two Pan American Games medals with Team USA's women's squad — silver in Toronto in 2015 and bronze in Santiago in 2023. Key, now competing under the name Michelle Key Anderson, finally won her first National Singles title at the 2026 USA Racquetball National Indoors Championship, a breakthrough that came a full decade after her runner-up finish at the same event. Her combination of sustained top-10 world rankings across more than a decade and her eventual 2026 National Singles breakthrough has made Key one of the more persistent and ultimately rewarded careers in American women's racquetball.
VS
Sudsy Monchik
Sudsy Monchik won the US Open, racquetball's most prestigious tournament, four times — in 1996, 1998, 2000, and 2002 — making him and Kane Waselenchuk the only two men in the sport's history to win it more than twice. Before turning professional, Monchik built the greatest junior record in the sport's history, winning a national title in every single age division from 8 through 18, a sweep no other player has matched, and he later became the only player on record to win a national title or higher across five consecutive decades, from the 1980s through the 2020s. His 50-plus career tournament wins rank fourth all-time behind only Kane Waselenchuk, Cliff Swain, and Marty Hogan, and he won at least one pro tournament in each of his first eight seasons on tour, from 1993-94 through 2000-01. His combination of a four-time US Open championship and his unmatched five-decade national title streak has made Monchik one of the most significant American racquetball players in the sport's history.
