Natalie Geisenberger
Natalie Geisenberger won Olympic gold in women's singles luge across three consecutive Games from 2014 to 2022, plus additional team relay golds, making her the most decorated women's luger in Olympic history and one of the sport's dominant figures of any era. Her sustained excellence across nearly a decade at the top level, interrupted only briefly by a maternity break between the 2018 and 2022 Games, reflected both her technical mastery and a level of physical resilience that allowed her to return to Olympic gold-medal form after childbirth. Geisenberger's dominance across three Olympic cycles, combined with numerous World Championship and overall World Cup titles, gave her a case as not just the greatest women's luger but among the most dominant athletes across any Winter Olympic sport of her generation. Her combination of three consecutive individual Olympic golds and sustained multi-discipline dominance has made Geisenberger widely regarded as the greatest women's luger in the sport's history.
VS
Erin Hamlin
Erin Hamlin won a bronze medal in women's singles luge at the 2014 Sochi Games, becoming the first American, man or woman, to win an individual Olympic luge medal, a breakthrough in a sport historically dominated by German, Italian, and Austrian athletes. Her earlier World Championship gold in 2009 had already established her as a genuine contender against Europe's traditional luge powers, but her Olympic breakthrough five years later gave American luge its most significant individual result in the sport's Olympic history. Hamlin's success helped raise the profile of USA Luge's development program, based at Lake Placid's Olympic sliding facility, and her breakthrough is widely credited with inspiring subsequent generations of American luge athletes. Her combination of a World Championship title and a historic individual Olympic medal has made Hamlin the most significant American luger in the sport's history.
