Peso Pluma
Peso Pluma became the breakout global star of the "corridos tumbados" movement, a modern fusion blending traditional Mexican corrido storytelling with trap and hip-hop-influenced production, achieving major U.S. and international chart success unprecedented for the subgenre. His 2023 collaborations and chart placements, including reaching the top of Billboard's Global 200 chart, reflected regional Mexican music's broader unprecedented commercial breakthrough into mainstream American and international pop culture during that period, a genuine watershed moment for the genre's global visibility. His incorporation of trap-influenced beats and contemporary production alongside traditional corrido narrative songwriting structure gave his music a distinctly modern sound that helped introduce regional Mexican music to younger, more hip-hop-oriented listeners who might not otherwise have engaged with the genre. His combination of his unprecedented global chart breakthrough and his role modernizing corrido songwriting for a new generation has made Peso Pluma one of the most commercially significant figures in regional Mexican music's history.
VS
Banda MS
Banda MS became one of the most commercially dominant banda sinaloense acts of the 2010s and 2020s, building a large brass-and-percussion ensemble sound that helped drive banda's continued mainstream popularity across both Mexico and the broader Mexican-American audience in the United States. Their sustained run of major hit singles and chart-topping albums throughout the 2010s established them as one of the genre's most consistently commercially successful acts, helping banda maintain its mainstream relevance alongside the newer corridos tumbados wave that emerged during the same period. The band's large ensemble format, built around banda sinaloense's traditional heavy brass instrumentation rather than norteño's smaller accordion-based lineup, gave their live performances a distinctly bigger, more orchestral sound that became a specific draw at their large-scale concerts and festival appearances. Their combination of their sustained 2010s and 2020s commercial dominance and their large-ensemble banda sound has made Banda MS one of the most significant acts in regional Mexican music's recent history.
