Peso Pluma
Peso Pluma became the breakout global star of the "corridos tumbados" movement, a modern fusion blending traditional Mexican corrido storytelling with trap and hip-hop-influenced production, achieving major U.S. and international chart success unprecedented for the subgenre. His 2023 collaborations and chart placements, including reaching the top of Billboard's Global 200 chart, reflected regional Mexican music's broader unprecedented commercial breakthrough into mainstream American and international pop culture during that period, a genuine watershed moment for the genre's global visibility. His incorporation of trap-influenced beats and contemporary production alongside traditional corrido narrative songwriting structure gave his music a distinctly modern sound that helped introduce regional Mexican music to younger, more hip-hop-oriented listeners who might not otherwise have engaged with the genre. His combination of his unprecedented global chart breakthrough and his role modernizing corrido songwriting for a new generation has made Peso Pluma one of the most commercially significant figures in regional Mexican music's history.
VS
Grupo Firme
Grupo Firme rose rapidly to become one of the most commercially significant regional Mexican acts of the late 2010s and 2020s, building a massive social media following that helped translate directly into major streaming numbers and sold-out arena tours across both Mexico and the United States. Their combination of traditional banda and norteño instrumentation with a modern, socially engaged online presence reflected a broader generational shift in how regional Mexican acts built and maintained their audiences, leaning heavily on digital platforms rather than solely traditional radio and touring. The band's rapid rise from independent, self-managed beginnings to major mainstream success, including significant crossover recognition at major American award shows, reflected regional Mexican music's own broader commercial explosion in the U.S. market during the same period. Their combination of their social-media-driven rapid rise and their sustained mainstream commercial dominance has made Grupo Firme one of the most significant acts in regional Mexican music's most recent generation.
