Ramon Dekkers
Ramon Dekkers, a Dutch fighter, became one of the first Western competitors to achieve genuine championship-level success and respect within Thailand's own domestic Muay Thai scene, winning multiple championships at Thailand's top stadiums against Thai fighters in their own country. His aggressive, fast-paced fighting style, combining Western boxing hand speed with adapted Muay Thai technique, made Dekkers one of the most exciting and technically influential fighters of his generation, and his success helped establish the Netherlands as one of Muay Thai and kickboxing's most significant training centers outside Thailand. Dekkers's willingness to fight primarily in Thailand against the sport's best native competitors, rather than building his career solely on the international kickboxing circuit, gave him a level of authentic credibility within Muay Thai's home country that few other Western fighters achieved. His combination of genuine championship success within Thailand's own domestic Muay Thai scene and his broader role establishing Dutch kickboxing's international significance has made Dekkers one of the most historically important Western practitioners in the sport's history.
VS
Samart Payakaroon
Samart Payakaroon is widely regarded within Thailand as the greatest Muay Thai fighter in the sport's history, winning championships across multiple weight divisions at both of Thailand's two most prestigious stadiums, Lumpinee and Rajadamnern, a combination few fighters have achieved. His technical precision and versatility across every aspect of Muay Thai's striking arsenal — punches, kicks, knees, and elbows — made him a stylistically complete fighter that Thai boxing historians still cite as the technical benchmark for the sport's ideal execution. Samart later transitioned to Western boxing, winning a world super bantamweight title, demonstrating cross-combat-sport excellence that few Muay Thai fighters have successfully achieved given the significant technical differences between the two disciplines. His combination of genuine technical mastery across Muay Thai's full striking arsenal and his successful crossover into professional Western boxing has made Samart the fighter most consistently cited by Thai boxing historians as the greatest Muay Thai practitioner ever produced.
