Servet Tazegül
Servet Tazegül won Olympic gold in taekwondo at the 2012 London Olympics, becoming one of Turkey's most celebrated Olympic athletes and establishing himself as one of the dominant lightweight taekwondo competitors of his generation. His technical combination of speed and tactical ring awareness let him consistently outmaneuver opponents in close, closely contested matches, and Tazegül's London Olympics gold came against a deep competitive field, reflecting the genuine international depth taekwondo had developed by the early 2010s. Tazegül's continued success at subsequent World Championship and European Championship events after his Olympic breakthrough established him as one of the most consistently competitive lightweight taekwondo athletes of the 2010s, sustaining his standing among the sport's elite well past his initial Olympic triumph. His Olympic gold medal remains one of the most significant individual Turkish Olympic achievements in combat sports, and Tazegül's sustained excellence across multiple major international competitions established Turkey as a legitimate taekwondo power during his competitive prime.
VS
Jade Jones
Jade Jones won back-to-back Olympic gold medals in taekwondo at the 2012 London and 2016 Rio Olympics, becoming the first British athlete in any sport to win consecutive Olympic taekwondo titles and establishing herself as one of the most decorated combat sport athletes in British Olympic history. Her aggressive, high-pressure fighting style, built around relentless forward pressure and quick combination kicks, made Jones one of the most exciting and tactically dominant competitors in women's taekwondo throughout the 2010s, and her London gold came at just 19, making her one of the youngest British Olympic champions in any sport. Jones's back-to-back titles came during a period of significant growth for British Olympic sport funding following London's 2012 hosting of the Games, and her success helped establish taekwondo as a genuine medal-contending sport within Britain's broader Olympic program. Her attempt at a third consecutive gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics fell short with an early tournament exit, but her back-to-back titles from 2012 and 2016 remain among the most significant individual combat sport achievements in British Olympic history.
