Shauna Coxsey
Shauna Coxsey became the most decorated British competition climber in history, winning multiple Bouldering World Cup overall titles and establishing Great Britain as a genuine competitive power in a discipline historically dominated by other European nations and Japan. Her back-to-back Bouldering World Cup overall titles in 2016 and 2017 made her the first British climber, male or female, to win the overall series title, a breakthrough that significantly raised competition climbing's profile within the United Kingdom during a period when the sport was still working toward Olympic inclusion. Coxsey's role advocating for climbing's eventual addition to the Olympic program, alongside her own competitive success, gave her an influence on the sport's development extending beyond her individual results, helping build the case for climbing's Olympic debut at the Tokyo 2020 Games. Her combination of her back-to-back World Cup overall titles and her broader role advancing competition climbing's Olympic status has made Coxsey one of the most significant figures in British and international sport climbing history.
VS
Alex Megos
Alex Megos became one of the most significant lead and sport climbers of his generation, becoming the first person to onsight a route graded 9a — climbing it cleanly on the very first attempt with no prior knowledge of its moves — a benchmark achievement that reshaped expectations for what onsight climbing at the highest grades could look like. His combination of competition success and significant outdoor rock climbing achievements distinguished him from climbers who specialized purely in one format or the other, giving him credibility across both the indoor competition circuit and the broader outdoor sport climbing community. Megos's technical precision and his willingness to attempt historically difficult outdoor routes previously climbed only by a small handful of specialists established him as one of the sport's most versatile and technically accomplished all-around climbers. His combination of his historic onsight breakthrough and his sustained excellence across both competition and outdoor sport climbing has made Megos one of the most respected and technically significant climbers in the sport's modern history.
