Southern Grist Brewing Company
Southern Grist Brewing Company opened in East Nashville in 2016, founded by Kevin Antoon and Jamie Lee, building a reputation around an experimental, rapidly rotating release schedule spanning hazy IPAs, pastry-inspired stouts, and fruited sours rather than a fixed core lineup. That rotation-first model, releasing new limited beers on a near-weekly basis rather than leaning primarily on a handful of flagship styles, mirrored the broader national shift toward experimental, social-media-driven small-batch releases that came to define a significant segment of craft beer in the late 2010s. The brewery's East Nashville taproom became a hub for the neighborhood's broader craft beer growth during the same period the area was rapidly gentrifying and developing its own distinct identity separate from downtown Nashville's more tourist-driven bar scene. For a Nashville breweries list, Southern Grist is the essential "constant experimentation" entry — an East Nashville brewery whose rapid-rotation release model, spanning hazy IPAs to pastry stouts, embodies craft beer's small-batch, always-something-new era.
VS
Bearded Iris Brewing
Bearded Iris Brewing opened in 2016 in Nashville's Germantown neighborhood, building its identity specifically around hazy, juice-forward New England-style IPAs at a moment when that style was still relatively new to the broader Southern craft beer market. Homestyle IPA became the brewery's signature release and developed a genuine cult following, with limited can releases regularly drawing long lines and rapid sellouts, a level of hype-driven demand uncommon among Nashville breweries at the time of its emergence. The brewery's tight focus on hazy IPA specifically, rather than a broad multi-style core lineup, mirrored the hyper-focused single-style approach several nationally acclaimed hazy IPA breweries had used to build outsized reputations relative to their production size. For a Nashville breweries list, Bearded Iris is the essential "hazy IPA cult favorite" entry — a Germantown brewery whose tight focus on juice-forward IPAs, led by Homestyle, built lines-out-the-door demand rare for the local scene.
