Thierry Omeyer
Thierry Omeyer won Olympic gold medals with the French national team at both the 2008 Beijing and 2012 London Olympics, anchoring France's goal during the country's most dominant period in international handball history alongside outfield stars like Nikola Karabatić. He was named IHF World Handball Goalkeeper of the Year multiple times, reflecting sustained recognition as the sport's top goalkeeper across more than a decade of elite international and club competition, and his shot-stopping consistency during high-pressure championship matches became a defining feature of France's tournament success. Omeyer's club career, including a lengthy and successful tenure with French powerhouse Montpellier and later German club THW Kiel, established him as one of the most decorated club goalkeepers in European handball history, adding significant domestic and continental titles to his international trophy collection. His combination of sustained international championship success and lengthy individual recognition as the sport's top goalkeeper has made Omeyer one of the central figures in France's era of handball dominance, and he remains one of the most statistically accomplished goalkeepers in the sport's modern history.
VS
Mikkel Hansen
Mikkel Hansen has been named IHF World Handball Player of the Year four times and led Denmark to consecutive World Championship titles in 2019 and 2021, along with Olympic gold at the 2016 Rio Games, establishing himself as the dominant player of Danish handball's most successful competitive era. His combination of powerful shooting ability and precise playmaking vision made Hansen one of the most statistically productive scorers in international handball history, and his club career, including a lengthy stint at Paris Saint-Germain Handball, established him as one of the sport's most consistently dominant club-level performers as well. Hansen's leadership of Denmark's national team through its most successful period in the sport's history, including that country's first-ever Olympic gold medal, made him a genuine national sports hero in a country where handball carries a level of mainstream cultural significance comparable to soccer in other parts of Europe. His sustained individual scoring dominance combined with genuine team success at both the World Championship and Olympic level has made Hansen one of the most complete individual and team champions in modern handball history.
