Tomatito
Tomatito became one of flamenco guitar's most respected figures through his long tenure as Camarón de la Isla's primary accompanist, a role that placed him at the center of some of the genre's most celebrated recordings during the 1970s and 1980s. His subsequent solo career, launched more fully following Camarón's death in 1992, established him as a significant composer and bandleader in his own right, winning a Latin Grammy Award for his 2003 collaboration with jazz pianist Michel Camilo. His technical mastery of the traditional accompanist's role, requiring split-second responsiveness to a singer's improvisation, gave him a foundational reputation among flamenco guitarists before his solo work broadened his profile further. His combination of his essential accompanist role for Camarón and his own accomplished solo career has made Tomatito one of the most respected flamenco guitarists of the modern era.
VS
Vicente Amigo
Vicente Amigo emerged as one of flamenco guitar's leading figures in the generation following Paco de Lucía, winning multiple Latin Grammy Awards and establishing his own distinctive compositional voice within the genre's post-de Lucía evolution. His 1997 album "Poeta" is widely regarded as one of the essential modern flamenco guitar recordings, blending traditional forms with orchestral arrangements and a melodic sensibility distinct from his more percussive contemporaries. Amigo's collaborations with major flamenco vocalists, including work backing legendary singers, demonstrated his versatility as both a solo composer and a supporting accompanist within flamenco's traditional cante-and-guitar format. His combination of multiple Latin Grammy wins and his distinctive compositional contributions to post-de Lucía flamenco guitar has made Amigo one of the genre's most significant contemporary figures.
