Tomoa Narasaki
Tomoa Narasaki became one of the dominant men's competition climbers of the 2010s and 2020s, winning multiple Bouldering World Cup overall titles and establishing himself as one of the technically most innovative competitors in the sport's modern era. His distinctive, highly technical movement style, incorporating unconventional body positions and creative route-reading solutions that other competitors frequently couldn't replicate, made him one of the most visually distinctive climbers to watch in top-level competition. Narasaki's continued excellence across both bouldering and lead climbing disciplines reflected Japan's broader emergence as one of competition climbing's dominant national powers during the sport's rapid 2010s and 2020s growth, alongside contemporaries like Akiyo Noguchi and Miho Nonaka. His combination of multiple World Cup overall titles and his genuinely innovative technical climbing style has made Narasaki one of the most influential and successful competition climbers of the sport's modern era.
VS
Alex Megos
Alex Megos became one of the most significant lead and sport climbers of his generation, becoming the first person to onsight a route graded 9a — climbing it cleanly on the very first attempt with no prior knowledge of its moves — a benchmark achievement that reshaped expectations for what onsight climbing at the highest grades could look like. His combination of competition success and significant outdoor rock climbing achievements distinguished him from climbers who specialized purely in one format or the other, giving him credibility across both the indoor competition circuit and the broader outdoor sport climbing community. Megos's technical precision and his willingness to attempt historically difficult outdoor routes previously climbed only by a small handful of specialists established him as one of the sport's most versatile and technically accomplished all-around climbers. His combination of his historic onsight breakthrough and his sustained excellence across both competition and outdoor sport climbing has made Megos one of the most respected and technically significant climbers in the sport's modern history.
