William Trubridge
William Trubridge became the dominant figure in constant weight no-fins freediving, the discipline widely considered the sport's purest test of technique and breath-hold ability since it prohibits fins, weights beyond what's worn at the start, or any equipment assistance during the dive. His numerous world records in that discipline, set primarily at Dean's Blue Hole in the Bahamas, one of the world's deepest known blue holes and a location Trubridge helped establish as the sport's premier depth-record venue, reflected sustained technical mastery across more than a decade of competition. Trubridge's own facility at Dean's Blue Hole, which he helped develop into a dedicated freediving training and competition site, gave the sport one of its most significant permanent venues and helped establish the Bahamas as a genuine hub for competitive freediving. His combination of his sustained no-fins world record dominance and his role establishing Dean's Blue Hole as the sport's premier venue has made Trubridge one of the most historically significant freedivers in the discipline's history.
VS
Guillaume Néry
Guillaume Néry became one of freediving's most publicly recognizable ambassadors, combining genuine competitive achievement, including a constant weight world record, with striking underwater filmmaking that brought the sport's visual beauty to audiences well beyond its traditional competitive community. His 2010 underwater short film "Free Fall," depicting a dive at Dean's Blue Hole set to music, became one of the most widely viewed freediving videos ever produced, introducing millions of online viewers to the sport's aesthetic and physical demands in a way competitive results alone rarely could. Néry's continued work in underwater film and photography, often collaborating with his wife and fellow freediver Julie Gautier, extended his influence on the sport's public perception well beyond his own competitive freediving record. His combination of his competitive world record and his significant role popularizing freediving's visual and artistic dimension has made Néry one of the most publicly influential figures in the sport's modern history.
