Steve Jobs
Steve Jobs co-founded Apple Computer in 1976 alongside Steve Wozniak, and while Wozniak handled much of the core engineering behind Apple's early computers, Jobs became known specifically for his product vision and insistence on integrated, user-friendly design across hardware and software together. Jobs was forced out of Apple in 1985 following internal corporate conflict, and during his time away he founded NeXT and acquired what became Pixar Animation Studios, before returning to a struggling Apple in 1997 and leading its transformation into one of the most valuable companies in the world. Under Jobs's later leadership, Apple introduced the iMac, iPod, iPhone, and iPad in rapid succession, and the iPhone's 2007 launch in particular is widely credited with fundamentally reshaping the entire mobile phone and personal computing industries around touchscreen smartphone technology. Steve Jobs's combination of his co-founding of Apple and his later transformative return leading the iPhone's development has made him one of the most influential inventors and product visionaries of the modern technology era.
VS
Nikola Tesla
Nikola Tesla, born in the Austrian Empire in what is now Croatia, emigrated to the United States in 1884 and became a pioneering electrical engineer whose work on alternating current (AC) electrical systems proved foundational to how electricity is generated and distributed worldwide today. Tesla's rivalry with Thomas Edison during the late-19th-century "War of the Currents," pitting Tesla's AC electrical system against Edison's competing direct current (DC) system, ultimately ended with AC becoming the dominant standard for long-distance electrical power transmission. Tesla held patents on the induction motor and numerous other electrical innovations, and though he died in relative financial hardship in 1943, his scientific contributions gained substantially greater posthumous recognition in the decades since, including the naming of the SI unit of magnetic flux density in his honor. Nikola Tesla's combination of his foundational work on alternating current power systems and his high-profile rivalry with Thomas Edison has made him one of the most historically significant inventors in the history of electrical engineering.
